Megan Dewan’s fifth grade class at Millstone River School concluded the month of September with a book reading and discussion about friendship, making new friends, and what is important to a friend. The students wrote short essays about friendship, noting friendship characteristics including being loyal, encouraging, trustworthy, responsible, and respectful. In addition, a school-wide activity at Millstone River School called “Thumbs Up,” allows students to be recognized for individual acts of character education. Students who show good character are nominated by teachers for this monthly award.
