West Windsor resident Krishnan S. Narayanan, the owner of Desert Moon in Nassau Park Shopping Center, has begun to offer family entertainment every Thursday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. featuring Dennis Thomas, a magician and balloon sculpture artist.

Narayanan, who worked in the technology industry for 20 years, opened his first restaurant in early December. His first encounter with Dessert Moon was in Tennessee. “I was impressed with the concept and the food,” he says. The timing was right since he was looking for a career change and a business of his own.

Born in India, he moved to the United States in 1975 when he was close to 16, studied at SUNY Stony Brook, and became a U.S. citizen in 1982. He has lived in West Windsor for eight years and was a volunteer fire fighter with West Windsor Fire Company for five years. He recently converted to honorary fire fighter due to lack of time. “Strangers have helped me financially, physically, and emotionally,” he says. “This is what prompted me to join the fire department and give something back to the society that I am part of.”

His wife, Mala, works for the state as a deputy attorney general. Their daughter, Rishya, attends Grover Middle school. The family lives in the Heatherfield development.

All foods featuring Southwest and Mexican cuisines are prepared on-site. The menu includes soups, salads, appetizers, burritos, quesadilla, enchiladas, soft tacos, rice bowls, and specials. Take-out and low-carb options are available.

Family Night, Desert Moon Fresh Mexican Grille, 415 Nassau Park Boulevard, West Windsor, 609-452-2917. Magic, balloons, and tattoos. Thursdays, 6 to 8 p.m.
