Funds for Katrina

Kristie Baer, a teacher at Village School, was instrumental in helping students in grades four and five raise money to send to the East Baton Rouge School District. The district registered more than 5,”000 students who were displaced because of Hurricane Katrina. The funds sent will be used to purchase books and school uniforms for the new students. The friendship project became a school-wide project as students were collecting loose change during lunch.##M:[more]##

Some students also raised money outside of school. Jeffrey Kuan played the violin at an area Dunkin Donuts; Ashleigh Honig, Marisa Pollack, Sam Hudson, and Piers Hudson held car washes; and Dan Brooks, Hayley Merrill, and Sarah Mahar sold lemonade.
