Show Me the Numbers

Our WW-P schools and respective communities are “inextricably entwined.” For so many years it has been an extraordinarily wonderful marriage and symbiotic relationship.

However, it is final exam time for residents and voters on Election Day! Our schools and local governments are at a crossroads. Low voter turnout and community service are the norm when both institutions throw money at issues of instead of seeking dialogue, fostering initiative, and engaging the stakeholders. So many questions go unanswered without recourse.

The WW-P Board of Education has unilaterally decided our high school students will not have midterm and final exams. Just as public education is designed to prepare students for productive lives in the workplace, examinations have been a time-honored quantitative measure of what one knows — and where improvements are needed.

Most of our dual- and single-income, professional, motivated, active parents paying exorbitant school property taxes expect this traditional protocol for their children. What if this concept is flawed?

The key question for your final? For any municipal or school incumbents, what have you accomplished? I have repeatedly asked these questions yet no one responds. Popularity and name recognition should not be a substitute for competence.

Lead, follow, or (please) get out of the way! If you don’t know your numbers, you don’t know your business or your job.
