Over the summer, Rep Rush Holt joined members of Congress, and Princeton University professor and Civil War historian James McPherson on a tour of Gettysburg National Military Park to promote the American battlefield protection legislation. The legislation would allow federal officials to collaborate with state and local governments, and concerned individuals to preserve and protect endangered historical sites, and would provide up to 50 percent of the costs of purchasing battlefield land threatened by development.

Before this, Rep. Holt won House passage of his Revolutionary War and War of 1812 Battlefield Protection Act, which would preserve open space by authorizing extra funding for protection of historic sites from the two wars.

Holt has stood up for our nation’s environmental crown jewels, and is committed to safeguarding our National Parks and Preserves. He supports efforts to clean up our air, land, and water, and to preserve open space. The League of Conservation Voters gave him 100 percent lifetime rating for his work, including the following two:

Introduced the Big Oil Bailout Prevention Act to hold oil companies liable for the full costs caused by oil spills.

Co-sponsored the No New Drilling Act to prevent new oil drilling on the Outer Continental Shelf, including the Jersey Shore.

In November, let’s reelect environment leader Rep. Holt back to the Congress.
