Lustig Dance Theatre is scheduled to open The Princeton Festival 8 p.m. June 22 at McCarter Theatre.

The performance marks the start of the festival’s three-week season.

Lustig Dance Theatre is set to perform three dance pieces, Shake Down the Stars, Jangala, and Graham Lustig’s own Six Pianos.

Shake Down the Stars is to be performed with live music from Emily Asher’s Garden Party, an ensemble drawing on the vibrant jazz of Louis Armstong, Duke Ellington, and New Orleans brass bands.

In “Jangala,” Lustig turns Rudyard Kipling’s Jungle Book into an urban jungle featuring classical Indian dance vocabulary.

Lastly, Six Pianos has been described as “contemporary elegance,” peaceful while energetic.

Graham Lustig has worked extensively with The Princeton Festival. He opened the 2011 season with a new work based on Stravinsky’s Pulcinella.

His choreography has been a highlight of the Festival’s operas productions, like Handel’s Ariodante in 2010 and Francesca da Rimini in 2012.

The Princeton Festival is scheduled to continue through June 30. Performances include Wagner’s The Flying Dutchman, the Bruce Barth Jazz Trio, Concordia Chamber Players, a piano recital with Gulsing Onay, Bernardus, an organ recital in the Princeton University chapel and the annual Piano Competition for Young Musicians.
