An Ode to Lawn Signs

The annual fall cornucopia of colors is emerging as the leaves turn to red, yellow, and orange. So is another rainbow of colors sprouting up in the form of campaign signs, and it is just great to see.

We love campaign lawn signs. It is a visible affirmation of our democracy and the freedom we have to make a political statement without fear of reprisal or intimidation.

Lawn signs in particular demonstrate that we can hold different political views but remain neighborly. This is a lesson that elected officials should heed — one can disagree without fostering conflict and rancor.

We hope the number of lawn signs in our community grows to a crescendo as we approach election day. The more the better as it shows that voters are engaged.

When the election is over, like fallen leaves, they should be removed expeditiously.
