Local fencers medal in Youth Fencing Tournament

Jinia Haldar of Robbinsville and Matthew Tsodikov of East Windsor won medal honors in a Regional Youth Fencing Tournament held at Durkan Fencing Academy in South Hackensack on September 6, 2015. Both Fencers train at the Fencing Club of Mercer County in Robbinsville.

Local residents, Jinia Haldar of Robbinsville and Matthew Tsodikov of East Windsor won medal honors in a Regional Youth Fencing Tournament held at Durkan Fencing Academy in South Hackensack on September 6, 2015. Both Fencers train at the Fencing Club of Mercer County in Robbinsville.

Matthew Tsodikov finished in 3rd place in a competitive Y12 Boys Sabre event. Matthew was seeded 6th out of a field of 24 fencers after winning 4 out of 5 bouts in his preliminary round. In the elimination round Matthew easily defeated the 11th seed by a score of 15-7 and then upset the 3rd seeded fencer by a score of 15-9. Matthew than lost his next match to the eventual winner of the event.

Jinia Haldar placed in 8th place out of a small but competitive field of 9 fencers. Jinia finished her preliminary round seeded in 8th place. After easily winning her first elimination bout 15-5, she fell to the #1 seed and eventual winner of the tournament.

Other Fencers from the club who also participated and fenced well were JP Rusk (20th place Y12 Saber) and Steven Gao (18th place Y12 Saber).
