Kyle Jorgensen, a member of Boy Scouts of America Troop 28, recently earned the Eagle Scout Award. On January 4 there was a formal ceremony and dinner to celebrate his achievement.
Jorgensen is a ninth grader at Lawrence High School and is the son of Chris and Amy Jorgensen of Lawrenceville.
In order earn the Eagle rank, each candidate must earn 21 merit badges and successfully complete a community service project.
Jorgensen chose to design and build storage shelves for Lawrence Road Presbyterian Church, the charter organization for Troop 28.
“The Lawrence Road Presbyterian Church has a storage spot for their activities and fundraising events. The groups include the Nursery School, the Vacation Bible School, the English School and the church maintenance staff. These groups needed assistance because the equipment in the storage location becomes broken, dirty, and lost. They needed an organized space so that the equipment didn’t get ruined and could be reused from year to year to keep their costs down. Now that they have a space for organization, they know what they have and they can fit more supplies. It also creates a safer environment to work,” he said.
Jorgensen also earned the Duty to God and World Conservation awards and has attended National Youth Leadership Training. In addition, he served as Assistant Patrol Leader, Patrol Leader and Assistant Senior Patrol Leader. He currently serves as a Troop Guide, assisting new Scouts in achieving their advancements. He is also a member of the Order of the Arrow, the national honor society of the Boy Scouts of America.
