Lawrence Girl Scouts hold healthy living event

Two Lawrence Middle School students organized an event called Live Healthy, Lead Healthy as part of their Girl Scout Silver Award project.

Eighth graders Saumya and Shriya Shetty, along with fellow scouts in troop 70626, hosted the event as part of Ben Franklin Elementary School’s fifth annual Science Night on March 27.

The scouts organized project to raise awareness about the importance of living healthy and leading a healthy life. Live Healthy, Lead Healthy covered healthy eating, physical fitness and self esteem,

Their project featured learning activities for children like Food Pyramid sticker puzzles, My Plate coloring sheets, a physical fitness station and healthy recipe tasting.

The Shettys also hoped to encourage people to drink more water than soda or juice. They handed out more than 250 reusable water bottles.

They plan to create and maintain a blog to post important information of living and leading a healthy life.

The Shettys have been members of Girl Scout Troop 70626 since first grade.
