Scholarship opportunity for Hamilton juniors and seniors

Hamilton Township is accepting applications for New Jersey State League of Municipalities’ Louis Bay 2nd Future Municipal Leader Scholarship.

High school juniors and seniors who reside in Hamilton and are seeking higher education are eligible to apply. The application deadline in March 15.

This is a state-wide competition, students from all over New Jersey are welcome to apply within their own municipality.

The winner will receive up to $1000 for their college education.

Applicants are asked to write a 500-word essay focusing on the theme “What My Mayor and Governing Body Do Best.” The essay should be based upon the student’s perceptions or experiences with Hamilton Township government and should consider the public contributions of their mayor and governing body.

Essays must be accompanied by a submission form found on the township’s website, hamiltonnj.com, in the News section.

A judging committee will select one Hamilton Township student’s essay to advance to the state semi-finalist round, where the League of Municipalities’ Scholarship Committee will select 15 finalists and three winners.

The winners’ essays will be featured in New Jersey Municipalities magazine.

Two years ago, a Hamilton resident was selected as a winner.

Applications must be sent to the mayors office, 090 Greenwood Avenue, Hamilton, by March 15.
