Allegiant leaves Frontier flying solo at Trenton-Mercer Airport

In news that flew somewhat under the radar, NJ.com reported yesterday that Allegiant Airlines hasn’t been flying out of Trenton-Mercer Airport since April 29.

They quote an Allegiant spokeswoman as saying that there was a lack of demand for flights from TTN to Punta Gorda Airport, the only one of three Florida airports to which Allegiant was still provided flights. Allegiant had announced that it would stop flying from Mercer to Sanford International Airport, near Orlando, and St. Petersburg-Clearwater International Airport in January.

Allegiant’s decision to pull out leaves Frontier Airlines as the only commercial carrier providing flights to and from Mercer County.

It’s worth noting that Frontier already provided flights from Mercer to Orlando International Airport, Tampa International Airport and Southwest Florida International Airport (Fort Myers). In each case, Frontier flights landed at the larger of two airports serving the metro areas in Florida that Allegiant reached.
