Burlington County Library System is set to host a “Makers Faire” on March 21 in celebration of craft producing occupations.

The event is set to join more than 130 other events across New Jersey as part of NJ Makers Day, designed to promote and introduce “maker” culture and the values associated with making, tinkering and STEM-based learning.

The maker movement is having a significant impact on school curriculum and local economies. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, “employment in occupations related to STEM — science, technology, engineering, and mathematics — is projected to grow to more than 9 million between 2012 and 2022. That’s an increase of about 1 million jobs.”

Throughout the afternoon at the library’s Westampton location, visitors of all ages will have an opportunity to create, tinker and explore more than two dozen “maker stations” that are scheduled to be set up in the library. Activities will include: stop motion animation, recycled robots, collaborative circle art, remote control devices, paper airplanes, bottle cap magnets, biodegradable planters, paper cup constellations, origami, 3D pen art and more.

The Burlington County Library is located at 5 Pioneer Blvd., off Woodlane Road, in Westampton. For more information about the library’s Makers Faire, call (609) 267-9660, or go to bcls.lib.nj.us. For more information about New Jersey Makers Day, go to njmakersday.org
