On June 11, 2016, the Bordentown community came together to support the Applegate Family. Their 13-year-old son, Daniel, has been battling Evans syndrome, a rare autoimmune disease that attacks the body’s blood cells and platelets, for several years. In April, Applegate developed fungal pneumonia and had to have part of his right lung removed.Led by Kim Wolverton and Barbara Matthews, a group of volunteers came together and organized a pasta dinner and quartermania to raise money for the family to help pay some of the medical bills they have incurred for Daniel’s ongoing care. All the food, programs, tickets, flyers and prizes were donated by local businesses and residents. The volunteers thanked the people of Bordentown and the surrounding area for their support. More than $10,550 was raised.
