For the 10th year in a row, Burlington County College’s Dental Hygiene Program plans to provide free preventive and emergency dental care on Give Kids A Smile Day.

The one-day program is part of the American Dental Association’s annual push to bring attention to the number one childhood disease, tooth decay. Give Kids A Smile Day is scheduled for Feb. 7.

BCC dental hygiene students, alumni and instructors, as well as volunteer local health care professionals, are set team up to provide children age 12 and under in need free comprehensive dental exams and treatment.

BCC has consistently performed among the top contributors in the state. According to BCC’s director of dental hygiene, Linda Hecker, last year program participants helped 99 children and performed 763 procedures worth $48,862.

“This event is so important to our community, and on a national level, it kicks-off National Children’s Dental Health Month,” Hecker said in a statement. “Give Kids A Smile! Day is our opportunity to educate children on the benefits of proper oral hygiene as well as help children in the area who may not have access to care.”

Additionally, Give Kids A Smile Day features entertainment for patients. Entertainers include face-painters, a caricature artist, seeing-eye puppies in training and the tooth fairy.

Appointments are required and can be made by calling (609) 894-9311, ext. 1074.

The Dental Hygiene center at BCC is located in the Lewis M. Parker Center, room 318 on the Pemberton campus, 601 Pemberton Browns Mills Road.
