WW-P Releases Violence Report

An annual report on violence and vandalism in the West Windsor-Plainsboro School District shows an increase of some 22 percent in the number of incidents between the 2003-2004 and 2004-2005 school years.##M:[more]##

The report, required annually of every school district in the state, lists a total of 67 total incidents of violence, vandalism, weapons or substance abuse in 2004-2005, as compared to 55 the previous school year. A breakdown of the statistics shows:

An increase in incidents of violence from 28 to 30 last year;

An increase in vandalism incidents from 4 to 16 last year;

A decrease in weapons incidents from seven to three last year; and

An increase in substance abuse reports from 16 to 19 last year.

In ‘03-’04, police were notified in 27 instances, with seven resulting in a police report. Last year, police were notified 24 times, with 11 police reports filed.

Last year, there were two in-school suspensions, 86 out-of-school suspensions, and two incidents listed in the “other discipline” category. The revious year, 67 out-of-school suspensions were the only disciplinary actions taken.
