South Girls’ Track: First Group Title

Adding to an already successful year, the South girls’ winter track team accomplished a first in school history on February 19 when it took home the group championship at the Bennett Center.

The girls defeated Winslow Township, 46-44, in the NJSIAA Group III Championship meet. In the win, senior Emily Mauro set two personal bests, first in the 800 meters, which she won in 2:19.52. Mauro also placed fifth in the 400, where she recorded a personal best of 58.97.Mauro also ran the anchor leg in the 1,600 relay team (also consisting of Ingrid Simon, Ashleigh Delemos, and Dahlia Amade) that finished in fourth place to give South the edge.

Meanwhile, Caroline Kellner won the 3,200 with a season-best time of 10:53.6 and finished second in the 1,600 with a time of 5:07.43.
