The former Exxon gas station at the Penns Neck Circle on Route 1 is expected to be demolished within the next few weeks.

According to Sam Surtees, the manager of the township’s Division of Land Use, Princeton University, which owns the site, received the demolition permit from West Windsor’s construction department last month. The university is expected to replace the former gas station with landscaping work shortly after demolition.

Surtees said the university will be demolishing the building and removing the underground tanks as well as cleaning the property. The university is also going to put “decorative fence there so people don’t pull in and park there,” he said.

There are no plans to do anything else with the site.
