Princeton library to offer seminars on writing college essays

Princeton writing tutor Ken Soufl is set to present seminars on writing and editing college admission essays.

The series includes to seminars; Brainstorming and Beginning Your College Essay, and Editing and Polishing Your College Essay.

Brainstorming and Beginning Your College Essay is scheduled for 7 p.m. July 9. The seminar is designed to help students approach writing their college essays with confidence and a clear understanding of how to proceed.

Soufl plans to cover the function and form of a college essay, the relevant information to include and the most effective way to do so. Participants will practice practical strategies for composing essays through the composition of a rough draft during a brainstorming session.

Editing and Polishing Your College Essay is scheduled for 7 p.m. July 23. During the seminar, Soufl will help students fine tune and conclude their college essays. Participants should bring a rough draft of a college essay.

The seminar includes interactive group work as the participants work with their rough drafts to practice the strategies presented and share comments with each other. This seminar is for rising ninth-, 10th-, 11th- and 12-graders.

The seminars are set to take place in Princeton Public Library’s Teen Center, 65 Witherspoon St., Princeton.

Registration for both seminars through the events calendar on the library’s website is encouraged but not required.
