Experience life during the American Revolution during The Princeton Battlefield Society’s “The Revolution at Princeton” event, which will be held Saturday, Sept. 24 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
“As we move towards the 240th anniversary of the Battle of Princeton, we want to make learning about the battle ever more interesting, compelling and, yes, entertaining,” said Kip Cherry, first vice president of the battlefield society said.
There will be numerous events throughout the day, starting with demonstrations of the 43rd Regiment’s Royal Artillery.
Patrick O’Donnell, author of “Washington’s Immortals” will give two short lectures and hold a book signing.
Celebrate the Battle of Princeton with a reenactment of the famous pistol duel between Aaron Burr and Alexander Hamilton, who both have strong tie to Princeton.
Burr is buried in Princeton Cemetery has strong ties to Princeton and his father was president of what became Princeton University. Alexander Hamilton participated in the Battle of Princeton.
There will also be demonstrations of military and colonial life including music, cooking, weaving, spinning, blacksmithing, and ice cream making.
Music for children and adults alike will include fife and drum, Irish music, dulcimers and lumberjacks. Other children’s activities include Patriot marching, artwork, and numerous opportunities for learning with First Crossing & the Princeton Arts Council.
Other activities include an exhibit from the National Marine Corps Museum (the first death of a marine in a land battle was at the Battle of Princeton); a display of American Revolution swords and a special musket; interactive map presentations on the Battle of Princeton and the Ten Crucial Days leading to the Battle of Princeton; a visit by General Washington (who will read a story to kids); battlefield tours; a presentation on restoring the Clarke House; hot dogs; tours of the Clarke House & Museum; and lots more.
