Summer is here! Homes throughout Robbinsville are filled with children of all ages excited for the start of a much-needed and well-deserved opportunity for rest and relaxation. For most, navigating the school year while maintaining a variety of well-orchestrated schedules and tracking the day to day activities of multiple family members can be quite the challenge. A break from this routine provides a healthy pause, allowing for added time to relax, refresh and unwind.

Depending upon the age and size of your family, getting the most out of summer vacation can take various forms. Parents with younger children might be busy researching camps and fun-filled activities, while older children may be looking for community service opportunities or a part time job as a way to contribute toward the family vacation or earn some pocket money. Regardless of your situation, it is vital to make time for a break.

Of course, this doesn’t mean taking a vacation from learning. On the contrary, summer provides a perfect opportunity for kids to explore subjects of interest that may not necessarily be part of their coursework. It is a wonderful way to keep young minds engaged without the constraints of deadlines and the pressure of grades. One way to accomplish this might involve establishing a family book club. Each family member selects a favorite book and discussions are planned for family meal time. It’s a good idea to pick books that everyone will find interesting, so it doesn’t feel like homework.

If getting out and about is more your speed, you might consider turning your book club into a day trip club where each family member picks a point of interest to explore. This could be a park, landmark, hiking trail or even a museum. The possibilities are as expansive as the imagination.

When all is said and done, summer break offers a chance to recharge and spend time with family. It is important that each member gets the respite they need so they can be fresh for what lies ahead next year. After all, September will be upon us in a flash.

Wherever your summer takes you, I hope you enjoy it as much as possible. Be safe, be well and happiness will find you.
