Gautam Ramesh, 6, of West Windsor took first place at the piano section of American Fine Arts music festival and played at the German Cultural Center in Manhattan on May 20. He also won a silver medal at the Golden Key music festival and performed at the Kimmel Center in Philadelphia on April 28, and received honors at the New Jersey Music Teachers Association) auditions.##M:[more]##

According to his mother, Pady Ganapathy, Gautam taught himself to play piano at age 2 1/2, and has been taking serious lessons since he was four. His current teacher is Soo Cho. A first grade student at Princeton Day School, he also composes music.

Ganapathy is self employed in the pharmaceutical field, and Gautam’s father, Ramesh Nagarajan, works at Bell Labs and CTO office of Lucent. Neither of them play a musical instrument.

When Gautam is not involved in music he is interested in soccer, baseball, cricket, and plays on the West Windsor-Plainsboro T-Ball team. For his math hobby, he creates and analyzes files on binary numbers on spreadsheets.
