Paula Servis has been working with children with disabilities in Plainsboro in a new Plainsboro Recreation program called “Kids’ Co’Motion.” ##M:[more]##Servis is a special education teacher with Eden Institute and an instructor at Robert Wood Johnson Center for Health and Wellness in Hamilton. She also has a background in dance from Rutgers.

The activities include stretching, ball games, relay races, parachuting, bowling, and yoga. The eight children in the class, ages 6 to 18, have development disabilities including autism and pervasive developmental disorder.

“Our Shadow Buddy volunteers are an admirable group of teens and adults who give generously of their time and attention,” says Cindy Capritti, program coordinator with the Plainsboro Recreation Department.

Volunteers from High School North include Meghan Clausen and Megan Rusciano. High School South volunteers include Jessica Cheng, Kenneth Liu, and Srujana Penumetcha. Adult volunteers are Damayanti Avalani and Ruth Levy.

Funding for the programs is provided by the New Jersey State Department of Community Affairs, Recreational Opportunities for Individuals with Disabilities grant, the HUD Community Development Block Grant, and the Township of Plainsboro.

“The program is going so well that we are expanding it to two classes this month,” says Capritti.

To register or volunteer for the program call Capritti at 609-799-0909, ext. 352.
