Few more zealous than Congressman Smith

This is in response to Greg DeLuca’s letter that appeared in the April 2018 Hamilton Post.

There are few if any congressmen who are more zealous than our own Chris Smith. When military bases were being closed all over the country, he fought tooth and nail to retain at least part of our military complex. As a result of his efforts, we maintained Joint Base MDL, preserving many civilian jobs in our area. He is also a tireless advocate for our interests in other areas as well. He champions the interests of the elderly, the disabled, and the unborn with his staunch support of right to life. The ACA law wiped out protections for the unborn babies. Naturally, our Congressman Smith opposed this law.

Abortion not only pre-empts the Creator’s privileges with regard to life. Some studies suggest it also causes long-term effects on the lives and health of the women who abort their babies.

Remember the cries of Rachel who would not be comforted when Herod killed all the infants who were two years of age or younger while seeking to murder the infant Jesus.

We have seen in our newscasts what happens when government pre-empts the God-given right to life, as well as parental rights to determine what is best for their children.

Keep in mind that once we were infants and will one day be elderly or even perhaps disabled. How comforting to know that there is a congressman who is a tireless advocate for us, as well as a well-respected negotiator in Washington, D.C.

Keady can flip District 4

Many voters may not be aware that for the first time in decades there is a hotly contested Democratic primary race for the District 4 Congressional seat currently held by long-time Republican Rep. Chris Smith. Democratic and unaffiliated voters need to come out to vote on June 5 to choose which candidate can defeat Smith in the fall. Unaffiliated voters can declare their party affiliation at their polling place on June 5 to vote in the Democratic Primary.

The candidate who has the best chance to win against Smith is Jim Keady, a longtime social and economic justice advocate who Chris Christie famously told to “sit down and shut up” as he was standing up for Hurricane Sandy victims.

Keady is a small business owner who doesn’t represent special interests and big donors, but rather everyday people like me, a stay-at-home mom of three. He is a bold progressive candidate whose positions are clear and steadfast. They include supporting Medicare for All, a $15 minimum wage, campaign finance reform and equal pay for women. Find out for yourself the difference between Keady and his primary opponent by listening to them both in any of the candidate debates at jimkeady.com/debates. I am sure you will come to the same conclusion I did, that Jim Keady in Column C on your ballot is the candidate we need right now to take on Chris Smith and flip this district.
