In Plainsboro Diversity Shines

Plainsboro features an accent on the international with the 10th annual town event, Traditions. A winner of the New Jersey Recreation & Parks Association Special Event Award showcases the festivals, cultures, and holiday celebrations of east, west, north, and south, in the municipal complex on Saturday, December 1, from 12:30 to 4:45 p.m.##M:[more]##

Activities scheduled throughout the afternoon feature dance, theater, musical performances, exhibits, folk crafts, demonstrations, stories, costumes, and cooking demonstrations at the Plainsboro Municipal Building, the public library, and Wicoff House (Plainsboro Museum). Sample New Year traditions of Asia and the Far East, Winter Solstice, Twelfth Night, and Kwanzaa. “Passports” become entry forms for door prizes.

Some of the arts groups and community organizations sharing their seasonal or cultural traditions are Plainsboro Chinese School, Nrithyanjali Institute of Dance, DDMBA, Bonk, WWP Chinese Class, Princeton Korean Dance Troupe, Alborada Spanish Dance Troupe, Cafe & Orquidea, Handsome Molly Dancers, Millstone River Morris Dancers, Varsha Rhythms, Odessa Klezmer Brand, Ten Thousand Villages, and Princeton Chinese School.

Also Griggstown Lock Rapper Sword Dancers, Junko Tano School of Dance, Iskra Ukrainian Dance Troupe, Maya Arts, Talpra Magyar Hungarian Dancers, Central Jersey Scottish Dancers, Ballet de Folklorico, Zuzhu Ensemble, Ghungaroo, WW-P Korean Language Class, Princeton Embroiders’ Guild, the Plainsboro Historical Society, Plainsboro Public Library, WW-P Youth Lion Dancers, Asian Market, as well as regional folk dance groups, local cultural groups, ESL classes, and more. Local businesses and volunteer “chefs,” specializing in ethnic cuisine, will be participating in cooking demonstrations, and the public library will be showcasing an international toy exhibit.
