Looking ahead to future renovations, Plainsboro officials this month were seeking requests for proposals from professionals for an investigation into whether the Plainsboro Museum, which is housed in the Wicoff House, has asbestos.
According to Township Administrator Robert Sheehan, “we want to make sure that as we go through some renovations there, one of the first steps is to try to identify if there is any asbestos, given the age of the building.”
“We’re going to be in the process of making plans to do some work in the Wicoff house in the coming years, so this would be a natural first step.”
Proposals are due back Friday, August 14.
Built in 1880, the 17-room farmhouse between Dye and Plainsboro roads was purchased by the township in 1977 to serve as a municipal building. By 1996, when it was no longer needed for that purpose, the Historical Society began restoring the building.
