Students in Village School’s grades four and five assembled food baskets and boxes for Homefront of New Jersey’s annual food drive. The students, parents, and staff donated food to help make Thanksgiving a little brighter for less fortunate families in Mercer County.

Participants included grade four classes of teachers Laura Agnella, Michelle Lanzano, Audrey Courtney-Quinn, Lisa Gray, and Marcia Morales; grade five classes of Eileen Beam, Joanna Park-Pyne, MaryJean Mucciarone, Vanessa Bruno, Marie Bresnahan, Kara Kleckner, Dana Kercheval, Alyssa Petrino, Karen Orlovsky, Carol Murphy, and Vanessa Clax; the Child Study Team; Village School office staff; Christine Capaci, principal; and Nicole Foulks, assistant principal.

The community service project was undertaken as part of Village School’s character education theme of citizenship. Students looked for opportunities to be of service and ways to make a difference in the world.

The grade eight AMIGOS club (Addressing Middle School Issues by Giving Options to Students) at Grover Middle School have also been busy fundraising and creating holiday food boxes for families in need. The students sold hot chocolate and candy canes before school each morning to raise funds for food and grocery store gift cards for each of GMS families that might need a little extra this holiday season. The AMIGOS decorated the boxes and made cards, adding a personal touch to each gift. The advisors are Dawn Gilchrist and Kim Hoeflinger.
