The Alchemist and Barrister general manager Amanda Armenante presents Mercer Street Friends Food Bank director Rucha Garde a check from The A&B’s 2013 Christmas Fundraiser.

The Alchemist and Barrister is marking its 40th anniversary by “sending hunger packing.”

The A&B chose Mercer Street Friends Food Bank as its charity last year. It has raised funds and collected canned goods for the food bank’s Send Hunger Packing program.

Through the program, Mercer Street Friends fills the backpacks of Mercer County school children with nutritious food for weekends and holidays when school breakfast and lunch programs are not available.

In anticipation of St. Patrick’s Day, the A&B is selling paper shamrocks to raise funds to fight hunger. Guests can buy a one shamrock for $2 or 3 shamrocks for $5 and post them on the wall with their name and message.

The A & B’s 34th annual St. Patrick’s Day Party and LongBeard Benefit is set for March 17. The party features Irish music, dancing, Irish fare by executive chef/owner Arthur Kukoda and specialty cocktails, wine and beer. The winner of the Annual LongBeard Benefit will be announced with prizes for the Best Beard and other categories.
