The African American Cultural Collaborative of Mercer County (TAACC) — formerly known as Trenton African American Cultural Festival — has partnered with Trenton Free Public Library and the Mercer County Library System to present a series of events to commemorate February’s designation as African American History Month.
The free events are as follows:
Saturday, February 11: “Hidden Figures,” a discussion on the “community read” book by Margot Lee Shetterly focusing on a group of black female mathematicians whose work helped NASA master space travel. The event includes discussion and as well as presentations by actors. Trenton Public Library, 120 Academy Street, 1 to 3 p.m.
Wednesday, February 15: “African American History Youth Event,” featuring poets, African drums, and dancing. For more information, contact Sarah Powell, Youth Services Librarian at 609-392-7188. Trenton Public Library, 4 to 5 p.m.
Sunday, February 19: Don Evans Players performing “LIFTing Every Voice,” an interpretation of the Black national anthem through song, poetry, and improvisation. The Don Evans Players is a volunteer community theater group named after the late Trenton off-Broadway playwright. The event was created and directed by Todd Evans, son of the playwright. Saturday, February 25: African American history event featuring children’s craft making, African drummers, Brazilian dancers, and the Don Evans Players’ “LIFTing Every Voice.” 609-989-6915 for more information. Lawrence Library, 2751 Brunswick Pike, Lawrenceville, 1 to 4 p.m.
Sunday, February 26: Jazz Sunday featuring live jazz and blues performed by the Bob Smith Trio. Registration at 609-882-3148. Ewing Library, 61 Scotch Road, Ewing, 2 p.m.
