9/11 Memorial: Suarez Softball

On September 11, 2001, David Suarez — a 1995 West Windsor-Plainsboro graduate — was working on the 99th floor of the North Tower of the World Trade Center for Deloitte & Touche. In the four years since then, his friends and family have worked to honor his memory by holding a softball tournament each summer to raise money for a scholarship fund for High School South in David’s memory. ##M:[more]##

This year’s scholarship recipient is Stephanie Perl, who received $1,”500. This year’s tournament will be Saturday, July 16, at 10 a.m. at High School South. The event is free. For more information visit www.davidsuarez.org or call 917-685-7506.

Says Jeffrey Tobias, a college friend who now lives in Rockaway and works at Lincoln Educational Services in West Orange: “Each year I like to reflect back on my friendshiup with Dave. All the teams involved in the tournament knew him in some way. I’m sure it means something different to everyone, but the purpose of the event is to remember Dave and honor him.”

Over the years, the eight teams that routinely compete have raised over $30,”000, including money raised from the sale of raffle tickets, an entrance fee, donations, and prizes. To make a donation, send check payable to the David Suarez Scholarship Fund to KAO Educational Foundation, Box 1865, Lexington, VA 24450.
