Students at Lawrence Intermediate School will soon explore careers in healthcare, construction, technology, the arts, and more — all through immersive virtual reality simulations made possible by a new education grant.

The Lawrence Township Education Foundation awarded the school a grant for a program titled “LIS Career Exploration VR Simulations.”

The initiative will bring Transfr VR headsets and tools to the school, allowing students in grades 4 through 6 to experience simulations of real-world jobs across multiple industries.

“This grant gives LIS students the chance to broaden their horizons and discover possibilities they may never have considered before,” the district stated in its announcement.

School officials say the program is designed to promote equitable access to career exploration and college readiness resources, particularly for students from underrepresented backgrounds.

The simulations provide interactive, hands-on experiences tailored to different learning styles and interests.

Research indicates intermediate school years are a pivotal time for students to begin forming ideas about their future careers. Through this program, students will reflect on their strengths, interests, and values to help guide future decisions.

“We are grateful to LTEF for making this innovative program possible and for continuing to support initiatives that empower our students and prepare them for a bright future,” the district said.
