Hopewell native Dan Kassel has announced the release of his third solo album entitled Clockwork. The Hopewell Creative Arts Studio—which he co-owns with his wife, Kaitlin Deering Kassel—will host a CD release party and concert on Friday, Dec. 16.

Kassel’s solo cello music aims to bring the classical instrument to new heights. He combines an acoustic cello with a Boss RC-50 looping station and minimal effects to play everything from Irish folk, Indian classical and down-tempo electronic music.

Kassel first began playing the cello in elementary school, although he didn’t start playing professionally until after college. In 2012, Kassel brought a loop station to add experimental effects to songs. He funded his first album through Kickstarter, performed at World Cafe Live and won an honorable mention in 2014’s International Songwriting Contest for his piece Moonslice.

To celebrate the album’s release, Kassel will play Clockwork from beginning to end, starting at 8 p.m. A reception will follow the performance. Tickets are $10 at the door or $12 online. For more information about this show call (609) 613-6718 or visit hopewellcreativearts.com.

Kassel’s new album is also available to steam online at dankassel.bandcamp.com.
