Kara Benerofe, a senior at High School South and a resident of Plainsboro, has organized an event in conjunction with “National Kids to Parks Day.” The event will be held at Morris Davison Park on Plainsboro Road on Saturday, May 16, from 1 to 3 p.m. A Girl Scout for 12 years, Benerofe will earn her Gold Award, the highest award in Girl Scouting, upon completion of her project.

“The program is run through the National Park Trust and the purpose is to encourage children to use our park system,” says Benerofe. “There will be games, contests, relays, a fun run, and giveaways to children of all ages.”

Register for the free event by E-mail to nationalkidstoparksday@gmail.com. Include the names of attendees, ages of children, and the number of fun run participants. There is no rain date. The first 30 to register will receive a gift.

Tara Miller, a park ranger for the Plainsboro Recreation Center, is Benerofe’s mentor for the project. Her leaders in Troop 70206 include Evelyn Turney, Marilyn Menninger, and her mother, Ria Benerofe.

Benerofe promoted the event at the recent Plainsboro Wellness Fair and Plainsboro Founders Day. She raised funds through a carwash at the Plainsboro Fire Hose.
