Scholar Dr. Cornel West joins the cast and crew of the Princeton Day School production of “Twilight: Los Angeles, 1992” by Anna Deveare Smith, to be performed Nov. 6 through Nov. 8 at the McAneny Theater on campus. Dr. West, who worked closely with Smith on Twilight and is a character in the play, will be on hand for a post-show conversation on Friday, Nov. 7.

Princeton Day School’s Upper School will present Anna Deveare Smith’s “Twilight: Los Angeles, 1992” from Nov. 6 through Nov. 8 at the McAneny Theater. The Princeton Day School Theater Program was recently named the top high school theater program in the entire Northeast by Stage Directions Magazine.

Smith’s work retells the stories of people who experienced the Los Angeles riots firsthand to expose and explore the devastating human impact of that event. A work that goes directly to the heart of the issues of race and class, Twilight ruthlessly probes the language and the lives of its subjects, offering stark insight into the complex and pressing social, economic, and political issues that fueled the flames in the wake of the Rodney King verdict.

The play is directed by Stan Cahill and features the talents of the Upper School students both onstage and backstage. Immediately following the performance on Friday, Nov. 7, scholar Dr. Cornel West, who worked closely with Anna Deveare Smith on Twilight and is a character in the play, will be on hand for a post-show conversation.

Due to mature content and language, “Twilight: Los Angeles, 1992” is not suitable for students under 14 years of age without parental supervision. Performances will take place Nov. 6 and 7 at 7:30 p.m. and Nov. 8 at 2 and 7:30 p.m. To purchase tickets, visit pds.org/boxoffice.
