Princeton Learning Cooperative honored

Princeton Learning Cooperative co-founder and co-director Joel Hammon accepts the 2014 Self-Directed Learner Award from North Star staff member Susannah Sheffer on April 6, 2014.

Members of Princeton Learning Cooperative traveled to Hadley, Mass., to accept North Star’s 2014 Self-Directed Learning Award April 6.

The award is given each year to individuals and organizations that exemplify the motto, “Learning is Natural – School is Optional” by living and learning without school.

Princeton Learning Cooperative co-founder and co-director, Joel Hammon accepted the award on behalf of PLC. In his acceptance speech, Joel told the story of the founding of PLC in 2010 and described the power and possibility of supporting teens to leave traditional public and private school to create lives for themselves based on their interests.

Princeton Learning Cooperative is expanding to include an additional center in Newtown, Pa., called the Newtown Learning Cooperative, which is set to open in the fall of 2014.

PLC is scheduled to holding an open house 1 p.m. May 3 at 16 All Saints Road, Princeton.
