West Windsor came one step closer to appointing a township attorney during a June 10 business meeting. Nine responses were received to the township’s request for proposal (RFP), of which eight were considered by the five-member committee selected to evaluate the proposals. One candidate withdrew from consideration.

The committee — Council Vice President Linda Geevers, Andy Lupo, Police Chief Joe Pica, Township CFO Joanne Louth, and Business Administrator Marlena Schmid — reviewed the candidates individually prior to the meeting, Schmid said. Mayor Shing-Fu Hsueh is not part of the committee or its deliberations.

“Then we discussed the candidates together and were able to reach a consensus on a short list to present to the mayor for consideration,” Schmid said. “One thing that I want to clarify is that this meeting was not in fact open to the public, because it was a business meeting. This is consistent with how the township handles all business meetings, which are generally not open to the public.”

The committee narrowed the search to three firms, which will be interviewed on Tuesday, July 1.
