Teachers Honored; ’14 Dates Changed

The February 26 Board of Education meeting began and ended with positive notes about teachers. Superintendent Victoria Kniewel started the meeting by announcing the 2012-’13 Governor Teacher/Educational Professionals Recognition Award honorees. One teacher from each school was honored:

Stephanie DiLorenzo, Town Center Elementary School; Allan Johnson, High School North; Regina Honore, Dutch Neck Elementary School; Marian Hyer, Millstone River School; and Robert Krzyzkowski, Community Middle School.

Also Randy McBride, High School South; Rae McKenna, Grover Middle School; Lisa Rhat­igan, Maurice Hawk Elementary School; Teresa Russo-Weitz, Wicoff Elementary School; and Karen A. Stroczynski, Village School.

Board President Hemant Marathe publicly recognized retiring Dutch Neck Kindergarten teacher Legia Shulan for her 23 years of exceptional service to the district.

2014 Graduation Dates. The teachers’ union president, Debbie Baer, publicly thanked the superintendent and the administration for working with the teachers on recalculating the 2013-’14 calendar, which had to be changed to accommodate the Special Olympics behing held in Mercer County in 2014.

The last day of school will be Tuesday, June 17, 2014, and school will begin on Wednesday, September 4, 2013. Additionally, the first day of the Chinese Lunar New Year, which falls on January 31, 2014, will be a day off for students and a professional development day for teachers and staff.
