International Day of Families picture and essay contest winners announced

The Zonta Club of Trenton/Mercer and the Mercer County Commission on the Status of Women announced the winners of their picture and essay contest on May 15.

The International Day of Families Picture/Essay contest’s theme was “What My Family Means to Me.” It was open to kindergarten through eighth graders in Mercer County.

The organizations hosted a celebration for winners at the Lawrence Headquarters Branch of the Mercer County Library System.

Before a crowd of family members, teachers and principals, the winners were awarded a certificate and a gift card to Barnes & Noble.

Winners from Hamilton include Wilson Elementary School kindergartner Samaree Roberts, first grader Jessica Quituizaca and third grader Tae Mae Wilson.

Trenton Catholic Academy winners include third grader Josephine Abraham, fourth grader Nia Reed, sixth grader Ashanti Ross and seventh grader Morgan Rhodes.

Winners from Trenton include Robbins Elementary School first grader Elisa Soliz and Franklin Elementary School second grader Alani Diaz and fifth grader Darriel Knox.

Lawrence Intermediate School winners include sixth graders Brianna Seals and Mira Ryu.

Additionally, Lawrence Intermediate School teacher Maureen Mutinsky and her sixth grade language class received a special recognition for their submissions.

The United Nation’s International Day of Families is dedicated the importance of family throughout the globe. It is observed on May 15.
