A small news item in the March 16 issue of the WW-P News concerning the petition to name the North baseball field after former player David Bachner, who died shortly after graduation, generated more than 70 comments at wwpinfo.com.

Most of the comments supported the naming of the field in memory of the late player, but one questioned the motivation of Bachner’s mother. She replied:

It is not me who is behind this mission to name the field. This is the mission of the community. Although I would love nothing better than to see North’s field named “Bachner Field,” I have not spearheaded this campaign.

I have nothing but appreciation for our board and how hard they work for our community. I know the tireless hours they spend.

I would love to see a naming rights policy in place and obviously would be honored to have the field named after David.

I respect all opposing opinions and so does everyone who has posted on this board. Telling me and my supporters to basically stop harassing the board is not what we are doing. … We all have our differences of opinions, but David has many friends who are passionate about this field and that is not going to change. The community and our schools are about our children. Let’s let it stay that way.
