Township officials say it is a sign of the times: the township’s engineering consultants and its Planning Board attorneys and consultants have lowered the fees they will charge the township in 2011.

The Township Council approved professional services agreements with five engineering firms that routinely provide consulting work to the township on January 18.

The agreements are put into place to allow the township to be able to turn to the engineers when projects come up, said Business Administrator Robert Hary. They are “strictly to allow us to use them and set their fees,” he said.

The five agreements were with ACT Engineers, which decreased hourly fees by 3 percent; Remington, Vernick & Arango Engineers, which decreased hourly fees by 5 percent; Van Cleef Engineering Associates, which decreased hourly fees by 10 percent; Alaimo Group, which decreased hourly fees by 5 percent; and James Parvesse, who decreased his hourly fees by 11 percent.

Hary said the Planning Board’s consultants also lowered their fees.
