Thiramala Halemane of West Windsor campaigned and ran for a seat in the India Parliament recently — and lost. Although he left India in 1974 to pursue a doctorate degree at the University in Rochester, he maintains a dual citizenship.

“As a citizen it my sacred duty to not just vote but offer my candidacy to the people,” Halemane told reporters. “Though I lost, I offered a new perspective in politics.”
