Plainsboro officials are expressing concern that a project scheduled to be undertaken by the state Department of Transportation on the Schalks Crossing Road bridge as early as next year may be delayed. Mayor Peter Cantu reported to the Township Committee during its July 8 meeting that he was concerned that the project may be pushed back.##M:[more]##

The project calls for total reconstruction of the bridge, including widening it and providing a better approach to it, Cantu says.”It’s been going on for years,” Cantu explained after the meeting. “It’s in some level of design now, and we’re anxious to get it moving. There were original thoughts that it may be under construction next year. Our concern is that it may be slipping.”

Cantu said he and other township officials have been in contact with the DOT. He said he also recently sent a letter specifically asking for discussion with DOT Commissioner Stephen Dilts “with regard to how we might be able to advance and make sure this project moves forward.”
