Rachel Carandang, a senior at High School South, has been selected as a recipient of the National Council of Teachers of English’s NCTE Achievement Awards in Writing Program. The program was established in 1957 to encourage high school students in their writing. Assessments of student writing are based on students’ samples of their own best prose or verse and on impromptu themes written under supervision.”

Mark Benjamin, a junior at High School South, received the Rensselaer Medal, an award attained by the high school’s single most promising science and mathematics student. Medalists accepted at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute receive a $60,000 scholarship.
