School Board President Hemant Marathe, who is up for re-election said: “”There is no real time pressure on the board. We are giving all candidates a fair chance and then will make a decision.””

Loretan announced his resignation on January 9, saying he would stay in the district through August 31. The school board started its search for a replacement with a request for applications from internal candidates. Marathe said after the February 1 deadline that more than one application was submitted.

According to state law, a sitting school board can not appoint their choice before the school board elections.

The district’s decision to hire from within will save an estimated $30,”000 in fees related to a search for an outside superintendent. The search that resulted in Loretan’s hire lasted several months. Marathe says Loretan’s effective leadership of the district made it possible to look within for his replacement._
