Marissa and Danielle Kelly, juniors at High School North, are working toward their Girl Scout Gold Award with projects to support Homefront. They recently assisted in the launch of “Suitably Dressed,” a store within the Homefront free store, which provides suitable business attire for women entering the work force.##M:[more]##

The fraternal twins worked hard to make the free store more visually appealing by painting the wood floor of the store and drawing and painting colorful artwork in the children’s section. They also sorted through bags and bags of donated clothing and organized the clothing on the clothing racks.

As part of their project the girls ran a household goods drive to benefit the more than 3,”000 homes that Homefront places families in each year. The drive was on Saturday, October 27, at West Windsor Farmers’ Market’s last event for the season.

They were born in Rockville Center, Long Island, New York, and have lived in West Windsor for 11 years. Their mother, Edie, is an editor. Their father, Cliff, is a sales director.

The sisters, both Girl Scouts for 11 years, are in Troop 1098. Their Gold advisors are Smita Varia and their mother. They both received the Bronze award in 2003 and the Silver Award in 2006.

Danielle is on North’s tennis and swim teams. She is also on the Mercer Junior Rowing Club’s varsity crew team. She played clarinet in school band through tenth grade and joined the school’s choir this year.

Active at St. David the King, they assist with children under 10 during the children’s Liturgy of the Word and are members of the youth group. They are CPR and first aid certified, and worked at Black Bear Camp as bus and group counselors, swim instructors, and lifeguards for both camp and corporate picnics.

“I learned more about community service through Girl Scouts as we always donated furniture, clothes, and household goods,” says Marissa, who is on both the tennis and lacrosse teams at North. The girls began volunteering for Homefront in September.
