In the February 17 issue The News reported that High School North students won the New Jersey State Championship for the We the People: The Citizen and the Constitution state competition on February 8. After a recount by the New Jersey Center for Civic & Law-Related Education, the sponsor of the contest since 1987, East Brunswick High School was declared the winner by three points. ##M:[more]##Despite efforts by High School North’s Principal Michael Zapicchi for the two teams to have a playoff or for both teams to go on to the nationals, the center’s final decision stands. East Brunswick has won the 18 state competitions and the national contests in 2004 and 2005.
