Witch Hunting at North

‘The Crucible,” a drama by Arthur Miller, will be performed at High School North on Friday and Saturday, November 18 and 19, at 7 p.m. Tickets are $7 and will be available at the door.

Although the story is based on events and people that took place in 1692 Salem, Massachusetts, Miller wrote the play in response to Senator Joe McCarthy and the House Un-American activities Committee in the early 1950s. Scholars have spent years talking about which witchhunting Miller was really writing about in the play.

The cast includes Richa Agarwal, Andrew Lavadera, Nana Akom, Monika Mastellone, Swee Shankar, Jenny Reda, Evan Rothera, Tara Lyon, Amanda Gaspari, Konrad Johnson, Rachael Starr, Sean Woodward, Rollin Say, Anusha Sriram, Tom Chacko, Mike Villastrego, DJ Ameen, Mike Pfieffer, Paul Callotta, and Vidhi Luthra.

The girls chorus includes Susie Ye, Tara Osei-Bonsu, Jennifer Ju, Etryesse Dunn, Anna Boshkev, Tati Calvo, Katie McKiernan, Laura Hitselberger, and Samantha Chapman.

The student crew heads include Randy Katz, lighting; Mike Cantor, sound; and Ali Chesser, running crew. Crew members include Billy Watkins, Elyza Brillantes, Sara Hoge, JP Quigley, Jimmy Ikeda, Trevor Nowak, and Meagan Quinlan.

Also, Allissa Goldberg and Brianna Steinhilber, choreography; Dave Behnke, sound engineer; and Saumya Goel, costume assistant.

Adults working with the play include Debbie Goodkin, director; Irene Nemser, assistant director and producer; and Robert Corriveau and Patricia Fonseca, stage crew.

“The Crucible” opened at the Martin Beck Theater on January 22, 1953, and had 197 performances. The play received the 1953 Tony Award for Best Play and Beatrice Straight received a Tony for Best Featured Actress in a Play.
