West Windsor has started work to enhance the streetscape outside the old Princeton Junction firehouse building, slated to be transformed into a community arts center.

The building, located on Alexander Road in the heart of the Berrien City section of town, was purchased by the township for use by the West Windsor Arts Council after the fire company moved to its new firehouse several years ago. ##M:[more]##

According to Mayor Shing-Fu Hsueh, contractor T. Fiotakis Construction of Edison will install pavers and landscaping the area in front of the building. “We expect that the project will take two to three weeks to complete. We look forward to a landscaped area in which residents can socialize together and which is inviting to the West Windsor Community Arts Center. We will also be creating crosswalks that will complement the pavers used for the streetscape.”

The pavers will have a design and color that will reflect the unique architectural style of the building facade, says Hsueh. The project is being funded through the Mercer County Neighborhood Revitalization Grant program.

“A primary goal of the WWAC is to restore the historic Princeton Junction firehouse to provide a permanent home for community arts programs including classes in dance, music, theater, and visual arts for all ages,” says Jeff Nathanson, acting executive director of the arts council. “We are delighted to see the planned improvements become a reality.”
