Kelly Edelstein, Lawrence Board of Education member since Jan. 2018, resigned from her BOE position recently for personal reasons. The BOE will formally accept her letter of resignation at its Nov. 14, 2018 regular meeting.
During her Lawrence BOE tenure, Edelstein served on the BOE’s Community Relations and Legislative Affairs Committee, as well as the Curriculum, Instruction, and Professional Development committee. Additionally she served on the ad hoc Superintendent Search Committee. The BOE appreciates and thanks Edelstein for her service to the students, staff, and residents of the Lawrence community.
The BOE is seeking applicants who are interested in serving on the BOE and filling the vacancy. The term of the position to be filled extends until Dec. 31, 2019. The newly-appointed member may run in the Nov. 2019 school election for a two-year term ending in Jan. 2021.
Potential board members must be at least 18 years old and a United States citizen. At least one year of Lawrence Township residency is required, and applicants must be able to read and write. Applicants must be registered to vote in the district.
Lawrence citizens interested in filling the BOE vacancy should submit their resume or letter of interest with background information to Board Secretary Thomas Eldridge, Lawrence Township Public Schools, 2565 Princeton Pike, Lawrenceville, NJ 08648 by 2 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 9, 2018.
Applicants must be able to attend the Nov. 14 BOE meeting at which BOE members will interview applicants in public session. The meeting begins at 7 p.m. in the Lawrence High School library.
After interviewing the applicants, BOE members will proceed with the regular meeting agenda. After addressing the business items, the BOE will move into executive session for discussion and selection of a new BOE member. Afterwards, the BOE will return to public session and announce its decision.
