Mia Carella is one of more than 30 authors featured in the anthology “The Unofficial Guide to Surviving Pregnancy Without Losing Your Mind.”

There are many things author Mia Carella wishes she knew about become a mother when she was pregnant.

“You think you know how much you’re going to love this child, but wait until you get there and see how whole consuming it is,” the mother of two said.

Carella is sharing her experience at an upcoming author event to celebrate the release of “The Unofficial Guide to Surviving Pregnancy Without Losing Your Mind.” The anthology shares heartfelt and helpful stories from 37 different bloggers.

The event will be held Friday, Sept. 28 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Carella’s Chocolates and Gifts, 2503 Nottingham Way, Hamilton. Carella, a former Hamilton resident, will be joined by three co-authors of the anthology for the book signing and author event.

Carella first began blogging two and a half years ago while she was on maternity leave. Both of her children — a 7-year-old girl and 3-year-old boy — were born with congenital heart defects.

“We went through a lot,” she said. “As I was processing those feelings and thinking about what it’s like to be a mom to kids with heart issues, I decided to write about it.”

Her first post, detailing six things to know about what it’s like to be a heart mom, was published on multiple websites, including The Huffington Post. Once she realized her writing could help others who are going through similar circumstances, there was no going back.

“Pregnancy and motherhood is an interesting and complicated journey, and it’s helpful to get all the support you can get,” Carella said. “By sharing our stories, we can help each other.”

At the Sept. 28 event, Carella and other authors will share their stories, read from their works, sign copies of the book, and meet guests.
